S.O.S.

I am confessing to all my blogging buddies. Some of you savvy people have cool hit counters and I'm sure a lot of them are off the scale because you are all great. But my confession here today is that I am responsible for a good many of them each and every day, just checking to see if you have updated - what a sad life I lead eh? So if some clever person (Carolyn? The Man?...someone?) could tell me how to do that update thingy whereby I am notified when you have updated, that would be great. As an aside, we should probably all monitor if your hit count drops radically and how many more hours open up in my day! :)

Hi SITH

I use Google reader. From the Google homepage at the top left is a row of options. Click on the dropdown triangle by 'more'. Then select 'Reader' and paste blog addresses into the Add subscription box.

Some blogs won't update I've found and for these you need to subscribe to their RSS feed service from their blog. It's only one or two of the nearly 30!! I have on my reader.

And yes you will free up lots of time, I did but now I find myself watching the reader tab to see when people update :-D

Deb - thanks very much - now is there a way I can attach that to my blogsite so I can see it - I know sorry - high maintenance eh?

Maggie - LOL - you mean I did not explain it clearly?

katy - all done, now just twiddling my thumbs waiting for something to happen!!

Follow DND's advice. Google reader is good and easy to use. If not that, then feeds work too.

To subscribe to a feed, you can click on "Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)". I think it's at the bottom of all blogger pages. Scroll to the bottom of yours and you'll see it. You'll find something similar on non-blogger blogs.

After clicking "Subcribe to: Posts (Atom)", at the top of the page there will be an option to "subscribe to this feed". You can even subscribe to your own blog to test it out.

Once you've subscribed, each day to check your feeds, click your "favourites/bookmarks" star. Next to the the favourites star is the orange feeds button. Click there to choose from your feeds.

I hope that makes some sort of sense. If not, email me and I'll try to do better.

Having said all that, I'm not a fan of feeds because I love the individuality of blogs. The colours, the fonts, the choices that each blogger makes on how their blog looks often tells me about the blogger. It feels familiar when I visit.

Reading a blog off a feed gives you the same generic look. Boring! (Plus, I hate the way my blog looks on a feed because the signature on the bottom ends up as a brown square that looks dumb!)

So. Go head and rack up my counter. It only serves to make me feel good about myself!!

Carolyn - you are right - not so pretty and where do I comment and check in on all the other comments? I have just checked reader and made a quick list of who's said something new, and gone to their blog!! I think it is saving me a little time. Thanks for your help.

Yes - that's exactly the way I would use it, just to see if there is anything new. Nothing replaces the real thing (and joining in the fun of commenting).

Oh Poo! I have cracked up many times seeing the number of times you visit my blog...many times!!

I'm definitely going to miss that..and I know my counts will be wayyyyyyyyy down...

Does this mean we don't have a life? We honey - we...

Yes I've been around looking for up dates on my favourites and just noticed how late it is! I feel quite upset when there's nothing new to read. Do I need to get a life?! (don't answer that one!)

And I was so proud of my two thousand hits... it was probably more like two hundred.

There's an award over at my place for you...
